Following the offer of the Government of Mexico, which was welcomed by the Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity in its decision XII/34, the eighth meeting of the Conference of the Parties serving as the meeting of the Parties to the Cartagena Protocol on Biosafety (COP-MOP) was held in Cancun, Mexico, from 4 to 17 December 2016, in conjunction with the thirteenth meeting of the Conference of the Parties.
